There are many different varieties of electric power surge protectors, however they all are designed to give protection to your important home electric gear from destructive surges and spikes inside the power supply.  When you wish to protect your household gadgets, Power Surge Protectors are usually your very first line of protection.

Every piece of electronic apparatus consists of very hypersensitive elements which are very easily damaged through surges and spikes in the electrical power supply.  This particular damage can be very costly to repair, and sometimes repair will be out of the question.  Whilst they are not usually apparent, fluctuations in your home’s power source tend to be common.

Electrical power surge protectors to suit the needs of just about all your electric devices can be found in a wide range of shapes and forms.  These products can offer surge protection for your entire household or even could be as small as an individual electric outlet.

You might want to know a few things about electrical power surge protectors, for instance exactly how they might be so beneficial and how they operate.  To put it simply, these types of technology stop electrical “surges” and “spikes” from harming your electric appliances.

How do power spikes and surges vary?  The key distinction is the length, with surges sustained somewhat longer as compared to spikes.  The majority recognize that lightning strikes could cause severe electrical power spikes, yet smaller sized spikes as well as surges in voltage occur relatively frequently.

Most of these smaller energy spikes and surges will occasionally be substantial enough to damage the electric devices in your house.  Often, they do not result in damage that is immediately apparent, but as your equipment is subjected to increasingly more current fluctuations, it will begin to end up being affected and its lifespan will probably be reduced.

A surge protector redirects electricity that surpasses the acceptable voltage, grounding it by means of wiring within the electric outlet.  It is a completely harmless method that guards your gadgets.

Today’s market offers many different types of electric power surge protectors, therefore you need to know which particular capabilities you need to consider.

To start with, you need to decide the number of surge protectors you should have.  Do not make the error of believing you will want a surge protector just when you have a large bunch of electronic gear.  Surge protectors as little as just one electric outlet can be purchased, and if you simply want to safeguard 1 piece of equipment without needing the large strip style, a single electric outlet power surge protector can be an appealing option.

Check that the electric power surge protector includes a built-in fuse.  This characteristic provides further safety if a surge or spike too big to be grounded through the wiring the standard way should occur.  In addition search for devices that include guarantees taking care of damage that may happen to electric powered appliances in spite of being connected to the surge protectors.

Additionally you can check out the power surge protectors which are created for your entire home.  These types of devices must be set up by a good electrical installer, nonetheless they make a great choice in the safety of your property along with protecting your expensive electric products.

Multi-outlet electrical power surge protectors will be the most commonly encountered type and present a variety of options to choose from.  Some of these surge protectors will be colour coded in a way that can help you to manage the particular electric products connected directly into each of the outlets, which usually stops the need to search for all of the electrical power cables back to their particular starting points so that you can know which particular wire you would like to unplug.  They are presented in a number of sizes and shapes to accommodate the room you have available.

You’ll find out more on the diverse designs of electrical power surge protectors and exactly where you can find the top selling prices by going to:  Power Surge Protectors

Presenting a feature-for-feature Kindle vs iPad review, which device will likely win hands down? No doubt about it, the Apple iPad, with its recent much hyped about launch, is the “in” thing today. Hardcore Apple patrons can barely wait to get their hands on one as the WiFi models are likely to ship in late March, and the 3G units are to be delivered starting April. When that time comes, we will expect to see long lines in front of every Apple store as what transpired with the release of the iPhone.

But what of the ereaders like the Amazon Kindle and the Sony Reader?  The ereader is fast becoming a common consumer device, with the Kindle getting the lion’s share of the market. Seeing the potential of such a device however, many such ebook readers have also been released of late, with most of them having practically the same attributes as that of the Kindle. Now with the entry of tablet PCs like the iPad which can also ably function as an ebook reader, the gadget demand may perhaps swing  to multi-functional devices. So, is the iPad poised to take over the ereader market? Let’s weigh the significant elements.

First off, the negatives. The iPad will only be associated with Apple’s own ebook store. While this makes is sensible for those who are still thinking of buying an ebook reading gadget, if you already own a lot of digital books, you won’t be able to dump them in the iPad. Actual ebook costs are still for confirmation, but there’s word that buying iBooks in the Apple ebook store is going to run you around 12.99 dollars and 14.99 dollars. These rates can be a little steep for those who have to start from scratch. Plus, Amazon’s ebooks continue to retail at 9.99 dollars apiece.

Nonetheless, acquiring an iPad has its own share of advantages, as it’s a device that can perform many functions. You can use this oversized iPhone clone, sans the “phone”, to view high-def movies, catch your favorite TV shows, browse the net, and play games on a 9.7 inch IPS touch screen. Sticking with Apple standards, the resolution and color is amazing, and the package includes your choice of 16-GB, 32-GB or 64-GB internal memory. With such storage capacity, the Library can hold a lot of books, which are cleverly displayed on a “book shelf” design. With an easy tap, you can pick out your ebook, and read it on the high-resolution, LED back-lit display. Depending on your memory and connectivity preferences, prices start out at 499 dollars and end at 829 dollars. It does have special apps created specifically for the iPad, and you’ll have access to many of the 140,000 other apps at the App Store.

On the other hand, the Amazon Kindle is a device intended for the user’s most comfortable and easy reading experience in mind. Unlike the LCD screen of the iPad, the Kindle, like the present batch of ebook readers, utilizes e-ink display, which many say, is unarguably best for reading for longer periods of time. The Kindle’s battery can last up to two weeks without recharging, so it could also make the ideal traveling companion. The 6-inch model is priced at 259 dollars, while the 9.7-inch Kindle DX costs 489 dollars.

So which gadget gets our thumbs up in this Kindle vs iPad matchup? Definitely for the gadget geek, the iPad will go perfectly alongside his MacBook Pro, AirPort Express, Magic Mouse and its smaller counterpart in looks, the iPhone. Jobs and his staff have come up with yet another brilliant product for the hardcore Apple user. But for the booklover just looking to read in the most conjucive “environment” and have little need for all of the other extra features, the Kindle ebook reader remains to be the best choice on the market today.

Launched in October of 2009, Barnes and Noble’s Nook, one of the latest handheld ereaders out there today, was seen as a probable contender to dethrone the Amazon Kindle from its dominance in the ereader industry. What has it got that makes it a serious challenger This Nook review explores the many features of this ebook reader.

Size, Display Specifications

First off, the basic specs. The Nook’s surface dimensions are fairly standard. It is 7.7 inches in length, 4.9 inches wide, 0.5-inch deep, and has a weight of 11.2 ounces. It’s roughly the same size as the 2nd generation Kindle – only thicker and a bit heavier. The device also comes with a 6-inch e-ink display with 16 shades of gray, and a number of options for font style and size.

But perhaps what gives it a wow factor that’s not found on most ebook readers today is its 3.5-inch LCD color touch screen. Located just below the e-ink screen, the LCD monitor replaces the typical keyboard and buttons used for making ebook selections and navigating within the ereader and the text itself.

More Noteworthy Features

The Nook is pre-loaded with 2GB of internal memory and a micro-SD card slot so it’s easy to add more memory as the need arises. The ebook gadget also comes with a replaceable lithium ion battery pack, 3G connection using the AT&T network, wireless connectivity, MP3 player, speakers, and a dictionary so you can effortlessly look up unfamiliar words.

Other Nook features which are completely distinctive from other ebook readers are its book lending and store browsing capabilities. As the name implies, book lending refers to having the ability to lend out an ebook in your library to another ereader user for a 14-day period. In-store browsing, on the other hand, means having the option to browse full ebooks free of charge in brick-and-mortar Barnes & Noble shops.

Where the Nook Could Improve

This Nook assessment won’t be complete if we don’t mention some of the concerns given by current Nook owners. One is the absence of web browsing capability despite its WiFi connectivity. Another serious issue is the Nook’s seemingly insufficient battery life as compared to other ereaders. Barnes & Noble says it could last about 7 to 10 days with the WiFi deactivated, but for actual users, 4 to 5 days is more realistic.

Considering the Nook’s superior features and Barnes & Noble’s innovative services, the Nook could have a huge effect on the ereader market. Still, this Nook review points out that there still are quite a few changes that have to be made, for the device to really kick off in a big way.

Participants were impressed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas with the Plastic Logic Que (pronounced “Q”) digital ebook reader. In partnership with AT & T 3G network serving as broadband provider, the Que has WiFi capabilities. With manufacturers claiming that it is a really exceptional gadget, the Que is the first of its kind that is is being marketed to the mobile professional. With its portability, users will definitely find it handy to carry around

Some may have second thoughts about getting the Que because of its hefty price tag. The WiFi 4GB model will dent the pocket by 650 bucks, and the WiFi 3G 8GB model will have you paying 150 bucks more. Many are questioning — why the steep price? Following suit with other digital ereaders, the Que enables the users to read their preferred books, magazines, and newspapers, but in addition to these traditional features, Que owners will also be able to use Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

The 4GB version can store up to 35,000 documents and the 8GB model holds up to 75,000. Organizing reports, documents and presentations is easy, and only calls for a few taps. With this technology, you can just about bid goodbye to a briefcase bursting with documents. This function is truly the reason why it’s best suited for the traveling professional or businessman. Likewise, students could also find the Que a practical device for them.

The Que is a sleek and fine gadget, with a 10.7 monochrome screen built into a thin body. It measures 8.5 x 11 inches, similar in size as an ordinary piece of paper, and doesn’t weigh much. It is easy to bring anywhere, tucked in your briefcase or purse.

Easy on the eyes, the plastic display is very enticing and the e-ink offers pleasurable reading. The Plastic Logic Que doesn’t work with a stylus, but a sensitive virtual keyboard. The user can make notes and highlight crucial text in any document for future reference. The Que comes with a USB port, SD card slot and speaker, and isn’t cluttered with unnecessary hardware. The sole button positioned on the front is the power button located at the bottom of the reader. In short, it looks good!

The reading enthusiast will have access to their favorite books, magazines and newspapers with the diverse selection in the QUE Store. Users can enjoy as well their daily newspaper over breakfast, steal a quick glance at their presentation even in the middle of a meeting, and enjoy accessible information all the time. Consumers can get their hands on the Plastic Logic Que from local stores in mid-March, or pre-order it at the Que website.

Are ebook readers about to be exchanged for the iPad? After the much-talked about launch of the Apple iPad, tech geeks are restlessly pacing the floor, anxiously looking to the day when they could finally get their hands on this device. The iPad models built with WiFi are expected to be sent out by late March and the 3G models are to be shipped starting April. It’s no surprise actually; a person who uses Apple products are a rare breed, loyal and have stayed true to Apple.

It seems like Steve Jobs still got his touch, coming up with a product that will be flying off the shelves, no doubt. Perhaps hordes of Apple followers will meander in long queues at the local Apple Store, standing by for when the iPad will finally go on sale, reminiscent of the iPhone release. But with all of the buildup surrounding the iPad, will it overshadow the popularity of other ereaders such as the Kindle and Sony Readers? So we can come to a conclusion, let’s take a look at the iPad in detail.

The device doesn’t come cheap with prices starting at 499 dollars and topping out at 829 dollars, and why wouldn’t it be more than a bit costly? True, the iPad is an ebook reader but it does a lot more than that It looks like a huge version of the iPhone, minus the call capabilities. You’ll be able to watch high-def movies, stream TV shows, browse the internet, and play games on it. The humongous 9.7-inch IPS touch screen is up to Apple’s high resolution standards. It is equipped with a memory capacity of 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive.

With such storage capability, this device will no doubt hold a library much larger than your average ereader. Books are coolly arranged on a “book shelf”. You can just tap the book you want, and enjoy reading it on a high-resolution, LED backlit display. While current iPhone and iPod Touch apps may be used on the iPad, special apps purposely created for the iPad are expected to come out too.

Here’s a setback, however. The iPad will only be connected to Apple’s own ebook store, and these books are not compatible with the Kindle and other ereader market dominators. If you have an ample collection of ebooks already on another ereader, you won’t be able to access them on the iPad. While it remains not confirmed as yet, word has it that iBooks will sell for 12.99 dollars and 14.99 dollars.

The Apple iPad is portable, lightweight, and most likely really fun to tinker around with. But if you don’t need all of the “other stuff”, the ereaders on the market now will suit you just as well. But if you are a true-blue Apple fanatic, then Jobs and his group have manufactured yet another exciting product for consumers. With fantastic clarity and capabilities, you will “iLove” this multi-tasking gadget. The Apple iPad will match perfectly with your MacBook Pro, AirPort Express, Magic Mouse and iPhone.

A lot of people are interested to see which ebook reader would take top honors in a Nook vs Kindle matchup. The big question mark is — which one? While Amazon’s Kindle is undoubtedly the dominant ereader in the market today, some are saying that the Nook has what it takes to give the Kindle a run for its money. But does it really? It’s time to put the two ereaders side by side.

Comparing the Basic Features and Design

Measuring 7.7 inches long and 4.9 inches wide, Barnes and Noble’s Nook is somewhat smaller than the Amazon Kindle which measures 8 inches long and 5.3 inches wide. But then again, at 0.3-inch in depth, the Kindle is slimmer than the Nook which is 0.5-inch thick. The Barnes & Noble device is also a bit heavier at 11.2 ounces matched against the Kindle’s 10.2-oz weight.

Unlike the Kindle, the Nook’s back cover can be opened, allowing quick access to its replaceable lithium ion battery pack. But what really puts the Nook on an entirely different level is the 3.5-inch color touch screen which replaces a standard keyboard for navigation. The contrast between the color LCD and the grayscale e-ink display provides an interesting dynamics to the gadget that only a small number of other ereaders can boast of.

Other Add-Ons

The two ebook readers come with 2GB of internal memory, but while that’s the most storage the Kindle can manage, the Nook offers you the choice of adding more storage space via its memory card expansion slot. And while the two ebook readers both offer 3G wireless connection via the AT&T network, only B&N Nook is WiFi capable. Visit a Barnes & Noble store and you get instant free access to WiFi.

Unique Features of Each

Now comes the more interesting Nook vs Kindle facts. So what features are available on the Nook but are absent on the Kindle and vice versa? For one, the Barnes and Noble ereader has two innovative services – book lending (having the ability to loan your ebook to another Nook owner) and in-store browsing (being able to browse full ebooks for free inside Barnes and Noble shops).

For its part, Kindle does have the text-to-speech option which allows the user to just relax and listen to the book being read. In addition, the Kindle permits web browsing, while the Nook doesn’t. Finally, the Nook’s battery life of 7 to 10 days (more like 4-5 days according to users) is a far cry from the Kindle’s up to 14 days battery power (users say 10 days). These are battery life estimates with the Wifi deactivated.

The Decision

As expected, choosing a clear winner between the Nook vs Kindle is not that easy. But while both have exciting features, Amazon’s gadget gets the edge in overall use as it has practically perfected the technology, having o up with several Kindle generations. On the other hand, the Nook’s numerous issues, like delayed page turns and sluggish startup will likely be addressed in succeeding versions, and then it can truly be a possible Kindle killer.

Apple has, after what must have seemed like an eternity to their adherents, unveiled their much anticipated tablet computer at last. The name has been confirmed as the iPad, which surprised some pundits – earlier predictions included iTablet, iSlate, etc. – and it’s fair to say that it has had a somewhat mixed reception thus far. When it comes to Apple, there is always a certain amount of polarisation, and that’s exactly what’s in evidence at the moment.

Some reviewers have suggested that it is nothing more than an oversized iPod Touch. Others are much more enthusiastic and are already suggesting that we will see the disappearance of notebooks, netbooks and the Amazon Kindle e-book reader. The proof of the pudding is in the eating of course, and this will come when the iPad actually launches in March. It’s almost guaranteed to be another huge success for Apple.

At the moment, the most commonly drawn comparison seems to be with the Amazon Kindle e-book reader. The two devices are really quite different – so any comparison must be made with caution. However, the comparison is pretty much inevitable considering that the Kindle reader has been the hot “must have” gadget on the market for the last few months and was itself often referred to as the iPod of books.

Of course, the Kindle is a specialised device. It performs its primary function – allowing users to read books – very well and has a few supplementary functions, a basic web browser, a dictionary, receipt of newspapers and magazines etc., which it performs, in all honesty, less well. The iPad, on the other hand, is an extremely versatile device which performs many different functions. Unlike the Kindle it has a very nice color display, which includes touch screen control capability and has an accelerometer. It is therefore a great web browser, good for watching video, an mp3 player, an e-book reader and all of the huge library of “apps” developed for the iPod Touch will function on it. Expect to see some pretty radical games appearing soon.

So should Amazon be worried that Apple is going to kill the Kindle reader off and eat into their profits? It doesn’t seem likely. Despite the hype, there is a significant price difference between the Kindle reader and the iPad. The price of the base model iPad is $ 499, just $ 10 higher than the Kindle DX price at present. However, the entry level model has no 3G connectivity and there is a minimum monthly $ 15 charge for the Apple device, which could increase to $ 30 depending upon how many downloads you make and what size they are. 3G connectivity is included in the Kindle package, with no monthly fee. It’s certainly possible that the launch of the iPad could force a price cut for the DX – but this was inevitable at some point anyway.

One of the apps that many will use on the iPad will be the “Kindle app”, which basically allows users to read Kindle books on their Pod or Pad. It may be an opportunity for Amazon to increase the size of their potential market in this area. Apple will also have its own book store for iPad users – so there could be some price competition in future. If so, it will be the consumers who benefit.

When the iPad starts shipping in March, it’s a fair bet that a lot of enthusiastic customers will be making their purchases via the Amazon website. It will probably be a very nice sales spike for them.

So – Amazon will have the potential to increase the sales of Kindle books. It will also profit very nicely in its capacity as a merchant bearing in mind that the Amazon site will be the first place that many iPad potential buyers think of when it is time to make their purchase. The price of the Kindle DX will fall, which it would have anyway, but they will continue to sell in volume and Amazon will continue to profit. It just serves to underline how robust the Amazon business model is.

A brand new gadget has hit the car of the man of the house and it comes in the form of a Sat Nav. He was lucky enough to actually get this for free as his company paid for it but there have been several issues that we have had to take on with it so far.

The product itself is fantastic, a brilliant idea for someone who doesn’t want to constantly pull over and read a map or listen to the wife telling you the wrong directions. The trouble is however that there are times where the Sat Nav is wrong and will lead you onto the wrong road and then shout at you for going the wrong way. There was one time where the stupid thing even tried to lead us into a road that didnt exist.

Another issue with the product is that it is being used for the simplest of trips and because you are busy waiting for the voice to say “turn left” or “speed camera” it actually ends up taking longer than it would without it. I

The Sat Nav is best used in foreign countries where you have no idea where to go at all. Sometimes it can be nice to hear directions from a person who speaks english when you are abroad and providing it points you in the right direction it can be useful for that.

Replacing them is not easy either which is why some form of Sat Nav Insurance will need to be taken out to avoid nasty replacement costs. Of course you could get gadget insurance as this actually sets out to cover you against other things like phones and games consoles. Sometimes you do not need to take out that extra mobile phone insurance
